We believe that every job we do is done to our own very high standards, but its nice to know that sometimes, there may be some recognition for the professionalism and expertise that we apply on a daily basis.

The 2010 Andy Swan awards give us the opportunity to do this and demonstrate our application expertise in external wall insulation from the design right through to the best business initiative. Take a look at the following case study for the full details.

2010 ANDY SWAN AWARD FOR INSULATED RENDER & CLADDING APPLICATION

The Insulated Render & Cladding Association presents an annual award for the best applications using insulated render and cladding. These will be judged using these criteria:- (a) design - aesthetics; (b) thermal efficiency/energy saving properties; (c) outstanding workmanship; and (d) best business initiative.

Name of project: Cornish Type II Houses, Eccleston Avenue, Ellesmere Port System.
w
Designer: Wetherby Building Systems Limited.
w
System: External wall insulation Insulation.
w
Type & Thickness: 50mm Phenolic.
w
Finish & Colour: Spar dash (classic spar) + Brickslip System.
w
Design Features: Brickslip to ground floor elevations, dash at 1st floor.
w
Specifier: Cheshire West & Chester (formerly Ellesmere Port & Neston Borough Council).
w
Specifier's requirements and how resolved: Unusual construction type (Cornish type II) required insulating to decent homes standard.
w
Technical difficulties & how resolved: Properties had concrete ‘plank effect’ panels, these needed to be packed with chamfered EPS insulation to provide a flat surface for the Phenolic insulation to be fixed. Special attention to fixing the panels was also needed and numerous mechanical pullout tests carried out.
w
Comment on thermal efficiency/energy saving properties (incl. u-values): ‘U’ Values of the properties reduced dramatically from circa 2.0w/m²k down to 0.35w/m²k.
w
Local environmental aspects considered: The Eccleston Avenue estate had a very poor reputation due to the ugly looking concrete homes. The client was keen to completely change the look and feel of the estate. The photos prove how well this was done with brickslip & dash finish. New Wetherby GRP canopies complete the look of a modern, fresh estate.
